The battle between Apple, Google, RIM, and Microsoft for the smartphone pie is heating up! The unprecedented smartphone and tablet computer adoption rate means that soon, almost everyone will have a fully functioning handheld computer. This rapid adoption is leading a revolution in learning consumption from mobile devices. As an e-learning professional, you want to stay up to date and prepare for the future, but as the rhetoric bullets fly and each new mobile operating system bomb is dropped, how can you avoid getting caught in the crossfire and choose a mobile learning strategy that will ensure success no matter who wins the smartphone war?

In this keynote session, months of research in the mobile learning space are boiled down into bite-size pieces to help you take it all in so you can make informed strategic decisions about where to take your mobile learning program. Come and see original market research data shared for the first time. And let's don't forget about the whole point: helping people learn and increase productivity. You'll get the answer to the question: is mobile learning really helping learners learn better or faster? Don't miss this session, and make sure to bring your own cell phone, because at BYOL eLearning 2010, everything is collaborative and hands-on, and this keynote is no exception.

Enriching Informal Learning with Interactive PDFs beginning level image Formal training programs, whether eLearning or classroom in nature, can never be considered in a vacuum. Viewing training holistically, formal training should be viewed as embedded in a continuous learning sequence: pre formal learning, formal learning, post formal learning. Pre and post learning solutions, at times referred to as informal learning, can include a number of different knowledge objects: textual, media based (e.g. audio, video, graphical), or a combination of the two. Informal learning can play a significant role in bridging the gap before a formal event between old and new knowledge; and supporting the important knowledge transfer after the formal event. Are we design just the formal course, leaving the learner to their own devices when the course is done? Greater focus is needed in the development of learner support that helps the individual apply key concepts and procedures learned in the classroom or eLearning course. Acrobat Professional has a variety of different tools to design and create stand alone informal learning and knowledge objects as learner support that supplement formal learning efforts. Interactive PDFs allow developers and designers to incorporate layers, media, animation, navigation, etc. in a meaningful way. This session will show the participant how to create interactive PDFs using Acrobat Professional, Adobe InDesign, and Microsoft Visio. Learn how to design and develop engaging Interactive PDFs. You will also learn how to align these types of knowledge objects as supplements of formal learning programs in order to improve course preparation, job performance and knowledge application. Lance Brown (PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP)

Repackaging Webinars for Better Effectiveness Using Camtasia intermediate level image In the past, the ADP National Account Services division used only Microsoft’s Live Meeting Web conferencing service to train their sales associates on new software feature functionalities. This required audience members to log into the Live Meeting link to view the presentation, and dial into a standard conference call number to hear the presentation. Live Meeting would then record the meeting in a Windows Media Video format for later playback. While this was a fast and efficient means for creating software training, it had drawbacks, including lack of resolution, lack of focus, lack of user control, and lack of editing. Participants in the case-study session will learn how, to overcome these drawbacks, ADP now uses Camtasia (a screen recording tool) to record and edit the Live Meeting presentations. This allows them to create professionally edited recordings during online and live classroom events. You’ll learn how the use of Camtasia can help you repurpose and improve your “live” Webinars.
